Itsycal is a tiny calendar for the Mac menu bar. Click its icon, or press a shortcut you choose, and a small window shows the month with your upcoming events listed below.

It reads the calendars you already have in the Mac Calendar app. You can create and delete events from Itsycal, though not edit them. Events with a video link get a join option, and since version 0.27.2 the right-click menu can copy the meeting link. Other options include ISO week numbers, an hourly beep, up to two months on screen, several font sizes, Dark Mode and a custom date and time display that can replace the system clock.

Keyboard users get a lot here: Vim motions with an optional repeat count, a jump-to-date command and a URL scheme. Itsycal suits people who want to glance at dates and meetings without opening a full calendar app.

Itsycal is made by Sanjay Madan of Mowglii and released under the MIT licence. It updates through Sparkle. The latest 0.27 release targets macOS 27, and version 0.15.15 is still offered for macOS 11 and later.

How does Itsycal compare to Fantastical?

Fantastical is a full calendar app from Flexibits with a free plan and a paid subscription. Itsycal does less: it puts a month view and your Calendar events in the menu bar, lets you add and delete events and join calls, and leaves everything else to the Calendar app. It is free and open source.

Can Itsycal replace the menu bar clock?

Yes. Itsycal can show a date and time in its menu bar icon with a format you set, so you can hide the system clock and use Itsycal in its place.
