ChainYourMac
Scrolling window manager for Mac that lines up every window side by side on one endless strip, so nothing overlaps or shrinks.
ChainYourMac is a native scrolling window manager for macOS, inspired by PaperWM and niri on Linux. Instead of splitting your screen into smaller and smaller tiles, it places every window side by side on one endless horizontal strip that runs past the edges of your display.
Nothing overlaps, nothing hides behind anything else, and opening another app never shrinks the rest. New windows slot in right next to the one you are using, and the strip follows your focus as you move with the keyboard or swipe sideways on your trackpad.
You can cycle window widths, make a window full width, center it, stack windows, or group them as tabs.
ChainYourMac is notarized by Apple, needs only the Accessibility permission, and does not require disabling SIP. It runs on macOS 13 or later on Apple silicon. It is sold as a one-time $19.99 lifetime license. Get it from chainyourmac.com.
Frequently asked questions
What is a scrolling window manager?
Instead of tiling windows into smaller pieces of the screen, ChainYourMac puts every window in its own column on one long horizontal strip. The strip extends past the edges of your display, and you scroll along it to reach other windows.
What happens when I open a new app?
The new window opens right next to the one you are focused on. The other windows keep their size instead of shrinking to make room.
How do I move between windows?
Use keyboard shortcuts or swipe sideways on your trackpad. The strip follows your focus as you move.
Can I change how windows are sized?
Yes. You can cycle through window widths, go full width, center a window, stack windows, or group them as tabs.
Is it safe to install?
It is notarized by Apple and needs only the Accessibility permission. You do not need to disable System Integrity Protection (SIP).
What do I need to run it, and what does it cost?
A Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 13 or later. It is a one-time $19.99 lifetime license.
