GrandPerspective is a disk space analyzer for macOS. It scans a drive or folder and draws a tree map, where each file is a rectangle sized by how much space it uses. Large files and folders are easy to spot at a glance.

You can color the map by name, extension, file type, size or dates, and pick from several palettes. Display modes show files only or group them by package or folder. Move around with the keyboard or mouse, open items in Finder, preview them with Quick Look, search by name, and delete what you no longer need.

Filters can include or exclude items by name, path, size, type, hard-link status or package status. Several views let you compare a scan before and after a clean-up. Scans can be saved and reloaded later or exported as an image or text, and it handles Time Machine hard-link backups and cloud files that are not stored locally.

GrandPerspective is open source under the GPL v2, made by Erwin Bonsma. It is free from SourceForge, and the same app costs $2.99 on the Mac App Store, where the price supports development. Version 3.8 needs macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon or Intel.

What macOS version does GrandPerspective need?

Version 3.8 needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later and runs natively on Apple Silicon and Intel. Version 3.7.2 works on macOS 11 to 13, and version 3.3 on macOS 10.14 and 10.15.

How does GrandPerspective compare to DaisyDisk?

DaisyDisk is a paid disk analyzer with its own chart view. GrandPerspective uses a tree map, is free outside the App Store, and adds filters, scan comparison and saved scans. Both let you find large files and delete them.

How do I find what is taking up space on my Mac?

Open GrandPerspective and pick your startup disk or home folder to scan. The biggest rectangles are the biggest files. Select one to reveal it in Finder, preview it with Quick Look or delete it.
